An era of standards and accountability is here for California and the direction for our District is to move all students toward meeting those standards. Rosedale Union School District has a comprehensive core curriculum with high expectations for all students. Curriculum is a word that often means different things to different people. The District defines it here as the board-adopted sequential list of what students are expected to know or be able to do by subject and skill area at the conclusion of an individual grade, cluster of grades, or upon graduation. The written core curriculum for our District is the California State Content Standards and teachers in classrooms across the District use the Standards and the results from the Standardized Testing and Reporting Program (STAR) as the guide for their instructional decisions. District Curriculum Guides assist teachers in aligning their instructional program with the Standards.
Rosedale has adopted state-approved textbooks in all four core curricular areas adhering to the timeline of State Frameworks and Textbook Adoption Cycle. The next textbook adoption will be in the area of history-social science. Supplementary materials are used in classrooms to support the core curriculum that includes language arts, mathematics, science, and social science. Physical Education and the fine arts are also included within the instructional day.
Reading is a focus for our District and the Board has stated that all students will leave third grade reading on grade level. All schools have implemented Accelerated Reader as a supplementary program to help students develop a love for reading and to improve comprehension.
Rosedale teachers are highly skilled, dedicated professionals with a focus on the education of all children. They seek to improve their skills through District offered staff development, conferences/workshops, and continuing education courses. Teachers also serve on various District level curriculum committees.
In the fall of 1999, Rosedale undertook a huge commitment to curriculum improvement through the process of a Curriculum Management Audit. The results of this audit give the District a direction for the future.
Rosedale students and staff have access to educational technology daily. For further information on technology, refer to the Rosedale Union School District website technology page.
