A new California law now requires students entering Grade 7 to be vaccinated against whooping cough. Therefore, Will need proof of an adolescent whooping cough booster shot (Tdap) before starting school.
By law, students who do not have proof of receiving a Tdap booster shot will not be able to start school until proof is provided to the school. (The tetanus-diphtheria booster shot, Td, will NOT meet the requirement.)
What can schools accept as proof of immunization?
Any immunization record (yellow card, computer printout or an immigration record) that includes the following information will be acceptable:
• Document MUST include your child's name
• Date of birth
• Vaccine name or abbreviation (Tdap)
• Date vaccine was administered
• Name(written or stamped) of the doctor, clinic or medical office administering the vaccine
Please provide proof of your child's Tdap booster and keep your records in a safe place.
Getting the adolescent whooping cough shot now will not only help protect your child against the ongoing threat of whooping cough, but it will also meet the new school requirements.
