Hello Independence Patriot Families!

Dear Independence Patriot Families,

Welcome to the 2019-20 school year! Our staff here at Independence is thrilled to welcome all of you to a new school year of learning and growing.

Personally, I am grateful and elated to continue this journey with you as I move from the Dean of Students to your Principal.  Over the past years, I have had a chance to meet many of you and your children, and look forward to continue building a strong relationship with all of you in the upcoming year.  To introduce myself, here is a little about me ~ I began working for the Rosedale District as a 4th grade teacher here at Independence Elementary with many of the wonderful teachers and staff that are still here today.  After five years on this campus, I went and taught Language Arts at Freedom Middle School for two years, then Rosedale Middle School for two years. I taught Ready to Start (incoming kindergarteners) during the summer for three years, and prior to coming to the Rosedale District, I had K-8th experience at a private school.  The last four years, I was blessed to be back on this campus, here at Independence, as the Dean of Students supporting students in intervention. Your children are what makes me smile each and every day!

As we enter this new school year, I want to let you know that our staff will be engaging in conversations around having a growth mindset, both for themselves and all students.  Despite obstacles that may arise, we must always believe in our ability to rise above challenges and come out stronger on the other end. My goal is to build an atmosphere of relationships, a love for learning, all while continuing to grow academically and developing as a whole person celebrating growth at all levels, and building our positive behavior choices.

I am also delighted that I am able to work with such a wonderful learning community.  I welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education, and I look forward to working with you and your children.  All of us here at Independence are here to work as a team to always support each child to help them be successful and love coming to school.

It is an honor and privilege to serve as your principal; but the success comes from ALL of us working as a TEAM.  Please stop by and say hello. Together, I know we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all children.

Warmest Regards,

~ Independence Principal, RikkiLyn McFee
