Welcome to the Independence Elementary School library web site!
Every student at Independence Elementary visits our library with their class once a week. A typical class visit includes a read-aloud story or a lesson on a particular library skill, as well as plenty of time to return and check out books. Our story times are chosen to introduce, illustrate or depict a particular theme, genre, literary device, curricular topic, or library skill; or, sometimes, merely for the sheer joy of sharing a wonderful book with students.
Students may drop in and visit the library before school or during morning recesses to browse for books, use a computer for research, work on class work or homework, visit with friends, play board games or perhaps visit one of our favorite websites.
To find out more about us and what's going on in the library or to access our online catalog, click on the links to the right of this page.
Our library, as well as all of our districts' libraries, is committed to fulfilling our mission statement, which in part reads:
..."to promote a lifelong enjoyment of reading, to enrich and extend the school curriculum and to encourage the pursuit of knowledge."
Enjoy our site, come visit and remember:
The most important 20 minutes of the day is reading to a child!
