Mustang Valet Program
August 20, 2024
Dear Parents,
I am excited to introduce the return of a leadership opportunity for fifth and sixth grade students at American Elementary. This program is called “Mustang Valet”. Over the past year, Mrs. Cushman and I had noticed an increase in the congestion in our south side parking lot in front of the multipurpose room, at morning drop off. We had several of our students arriving at their classroom after the 7:55 A.M. bell due to a large line of cars. We implemented our valet program hoping that this new program would aide in alleviating this problem. The response we received from the staff, students, and community was overwhelmingly positive!
This program requires the assistance of our best and most responsible fourth, fifth and sixth grade students to assist the younger students in exiting their cars quickly. Students who wish to become a Mustang Valet will need to be at school by 7:40 A.M. on their scheduled day. The amount of days that students will need to serve will be based on the amount of interest received. (Last year each student served once per week.) Students will be on duty from 7:40-7:55. They will be dismissed to class as soon as the bell rings. Valet helpers will not miss any class time.
To address safety concerns regarding this program, all students will receive training. Students will wear brightly-colored vests that identify them to parents and students. They will open the doors from the curb side only. An employee of the Rosedale Union School District will supervise students at all times. These adults will include Mrs. Showers, a teacher assigned to morning duty, or myself.
All interested students will be screened by me, as well as the fourth, fifth and sixth grade instructional team. Students who wish to assist in this program must have two or less unexcused tardies per quarter and have passing grades. If a student desires to be released from their duties, a parent must submit a signed note to me and allow two weeks notice for a replacement to be located.
If you have any questions please contact me at American Elementary School 661-587-2277.
Sincerely,
Ms. Darcy Hill
