Battle Of The Books

Battle of the Books was started over 25 years ago and has grown, due to its immense popularity, throughout the county. This competition gives students an opportunity to read, discuss, and quiz on a pre-determined set of books while also exposing our students to a variety of genres and authors. Lastly, during the battle competition students develop friendships and practice leadership skills.

What is Battle of the Books?

Kern County Battle of the Books calls for students to read 20-30 titles (3rd gd- 12 titles) from the American Battle of the Books lists.  Students then come together in mixed school groups to demonstrate their abilities and to test their knowledge of the books they have read.   Each team will participate in six battles throughout the morning (3rd grd has three battles) with teams accumulating points during each battle. The top two scoring teams will then have a final battle for first and second place.
